Who We Are...
Gainsboro' Youth Group (G.Y.G) was initially set up in 2001, in response to a need to support, and minister to, the youth of the town.
The group is part of the larger QUEST-ion project within the Wolds and Trent Methodist Circuit, providing faith based, nurturing, and entertaining activities.
In June 2015 QUEST-ion was adopted by the Lincolnshire Youth Mission, who took responsibility for the work, focusing on continuing and expanding the reach of the project.
Unfortunately due to dwindling numbers GYG is now on the move.
We have decided that it is best to move the youth work for the area to Marton, where it will be better supported. That stated, all are welcome and transport can be provided for those in Gainsborough.
We will be meeting on Monday evenings at 6:30pm (during term time) at Marton Methodist Church for organised youth activities.
Generally we finish at 8:30pm, after a Bible Study starting at 8pm. We are aware that religion is not necessarily an important part of our members lives, so this activity is completely optional.
In addition there will be a youth drop-in available on a Thursday evening from 5pm - 8pm, for those needing support, advice or general company.
G.Y.G is a great place to share together, have fun through games, craft, competitions, debate, conversation & laughter.
Activities on offer include PS4, Table Tennis, Pool, Darts and a range of interactive games.
There are no subscription or membership fees. However a tuck shop is available offering a wide variety of goods.
We wanted to provide a service that was part of the fabric of the local community; offering young people the opportunity to build important personal and interpersonal skills, gaining self-confidence and self-esteem.
Through contributing to the group, we believe that our members can identify themselves as having something important to offer.
We hope that ultimately they can can find friendship and acceptance within the group, working towards expressing themselves openly with their peers, and developing a strong support network - which can lead to real accomplishments.
Overall, we believe that each group member will benefit from the general atmosphere, leaving with a real sense of well-being.
Where Does God Fit In?
It is important to help and support all young people in their development into adulthood spiritually, mentally and physically.
It is difficult for churches to engage with young people because of stereotypes. A lot of young members come to us, un-churched, having had very limited experience of the Church and God in particular.
Spiritually, we wish to inspire these young people through open discussion and Bible Study, and offer them an experience of Christianity.
Ultimately, we wish to give them a values-based view on life, and provide them with a way of knowing God and understanding HIS ways - especially in relating to, and living with others.
God has love for all unconditionally - seeing each individual for their own unique worth - There is incredible potential in this generation, you just need to know where to look for it!
